2373Q1U - Fastest/Most Powerful System??
2373Q1U - Fastest/Most Powerful System??
I know this questions will sound weird, but I just want to make sure I didn't get ripped off. I recently purchased an IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-Q1U) and it seemed that this particular model/type system was the most expensive one that IBM offers (even currently). As such, I would assume this model system is the fastest, most powerful system, and it is well worth the exorbitant amount of money I spent on it (not to mention that it will last me a looong time). Is this correct...or are there other, better systems that were cheaper and I got ripped off? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

From the computer point of view, there is never fastest, only faster.
But in the T42 series, it should be the best, since it is the most expensive one.
Also be careful, a lot of things will affect the cost, CPU speed is just one aspect.

Hi Marc, mbressman wrote:But is it really the best because its the most expensive?
And also, why is it not a Centrino? What exactly is the difference between a Centrino system and a Pentium-M system? And which of those is better? Sorry for all the questions, and thanks again to all for the help!

Think about it this way: Ask whether this computer is the best for you, and not whether it is "the best". I have a Certified Used T23, and it is the best for me, because it has enough power for me to use Photoshop and several other high end software, has a great screen, keyboard, etc, and it only costed me $700.
That being said, since your computer is the most expensive in the T42 lineup, most people would consider it "the best". Bear in mind that computer technology advances quite rapidly, so what is now the best might not be the best anymore a couple of weeks from now. However, if you have enough money that it is not a problem for you, you shouldn't feel guilty about having bought that Thinkpad. Hey, after all, I have a Thinkpad too, and not a Dell
The bottom line is that you shouldn't be obsessing about whether your Thinkpad is the best, but should be using it as fully as you can.
By the way, your computer is probably not a Centrino because the Wi-Fi is not Intel, but IBM. In order to qualify as a Centrino the Wi-Fi must be Intel.

Thank you. By the way, I have been following your other thread, and I envy you sooooooo much. You are a lucky man, having three beautiful new Thinkpads all for yourself. Don't you ever feel like a Sheik in a Harem?

And while they are all nice and pretty they are just not that comfortable when you take them to bed. And i guess we have to sotp here before the detaisl get to ugly
Anyway, since this project is soon finished and im having to much fun getting you guys' attention i need to figure out what to do next.
Although i already got plans for whatever one i choose(Metalic candy apple red Thinkpad anyone *hint*) - there must be other things we could have fun with.
LOL. I don't think Thinkpads have the interface you are looking for.mlykke wrote: Haha - You could say that but im still having a lot of problems getting any of them to cook me dinner or do the dishes

However, I have been told (emphasis on have been told) that a Thinkpad of the current generation can store the pictures of thousands of beautiful women.
Things might change in the future.
[Forward 10 years]:
(mlykke to T109): So, was it as good for you as it was for me? (patting the Thinkpad in the rear ports).
(T109 to mlykke): Didn't you hear my fan go on constantly? You almost melted my circuits. By the way, where is that hussy T110p that you got last month? I am sure she couldn't do what I just did to you.
(mlykke to T109): Here we go again
