Hard Drive Protection

#1 Post by mbressman » Sat May 14, 2005 7:14 pm

One of the key reasons I recently purchased an IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-Q1U) was because it touted a lot of hard drive protections that would end up protecting your data. However, the system that I initially got had problems with it, and I had to get a replacement system from IBM. I ended up putting a lot of programs and data on the first system, so rather than spend time and effort transferring them to the second system, I just swapped the hard drives. Is this going to negatively effect the protections that are in place for the hard drive and the data that is on it? Do I have to enable/re-enable any of these protections (I never enabled any initially either). Any help/info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

no you shouldn't. hard drive protection not depends from hdd. is it chip in laptop itself. it will protect every drive which will be connected there.

question 2 all: will it protect for example external drives too ? or internal second hdd ?

Yes, like vi said the Active Protection System (APS) will work with any internal 2.5" hard drive (since the accelerometer is on the mainboard), including those in the modular bay adapter, although I'm quite sure APS doesn't work with external drives.

Also, make sure you have the latest APS drivers for the UltraSlim bay protection to work.
