DVI 1600 x1200 problems with May IBM Radeon driver
DVI 1600 x1200 problems with May IBM Radeon driver
Based on a recent post, I switched back to the May IBM Radeon drivers from modded ATI drivers. I made the switch because I could never get the ATI controls to switch easily between the two displays.
Unfortunately, I am having a new issue with my Samsung 213T running in 1600x1200 DVI. Everything works fine, except the DVI image exceeds the boudaries of the LCD frame (both horizontally and vertically). I can scroll by pointing the mouse to reach the image boundaries, but obviously I've done something wrong.
Clues:
1. Display settings appear proper in both the Display control and Presentation director (1600x1200, etc.).
2. Control between LCD and 213T works perfectly - and the LCD at 1400x1050 works fine.
3. I reloaded the Samsung display drivers, and they seem to be there, though it is unclear whether the Radeon driver is recognizing them
4. Finally, using the menu on the Samsung monitor, it says in the "source select" menu that the signal is 1280x1024 at 60Hz -- which I believe is problematic.
I would appreciate any advice getting my 213T to work at proper resolution.
Thanks in advance for the help
Ken.

Sorry for the addtional post, but my earlier posting prompted me to try something else.
When I set the Samsung 213T screen resolution to 1280x1024, everything fit perfectly in the sceen frame.
Alternatively, when I enlarge the resolution to 1600x1200 from the 1280x1024 , the appearance of the font sizes seems to stay the same, but I get the screen enlargement effect described earlier.
Hope this additonal information helps.

I don't know anything about that monitor, but try this:
Go to Display Properties | Advanced, select the Monitor tab, find your display, click Properties and Uninstall the driver for your monitor.
Then all resolutions that the video card can handle will be displayed in the Display Properties page. Just select the appropriate resolution, and you're done.

Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
Re: DVI 1600 x1200 problems with May IBM Radeon driver
Ken -
I run both my 213T monitor and my laptop screen at 1600x1200 just fine. I use
the modded Catalyst 5.1 drivers with 128MB video RAM. No issues. I am not clear why you need to switch between the 2 resolutions and thus had problems and changed back to the IBM drivers, but I do not need to switch. Maybe my case is not the same as yours.... anyway, if you need more details on my setup let me know.

Thanks for the responses. Couple of things:
1. My T42 is 14" -- so I want to stay at the native 1400 resolution.
2. For some crazy reason, I called IBM service. They explained that the 213T is in "panning mode". They said that the new driver set DOES support 1600 resolution, but only for the T43. I asked why -- answer: T43 hardware allows it, t42 does not. Makes no sense, but my expectaitons from IBM were low.
3. I'll try the driver uninstall.
4. I can go back to the modded drivers. They worked, but I could never get the ATI control center to easily switch between the different resolution of the laptop and the 213T. I tried all types of settings in the Control center, Display applet and Presentation Director -- none allowed a one choice change between the two monitors.
Thanks. Additional suggestions welcomed.

Just curious... did you try working with the latest 8.103.2 ATI driver set? I am still on the 8.011 flavor... maybe the newer code will work better for you? My ATI CCC works OK, but man, is it ever sloooooooooow.... I try not to go into it very often. Yikes.

KC - Maybe you need (read: should want) to buy a port replicator, assuming you don't have one. This has my life easy switching between resolutions.
In port - automatically goes to DVI on 20" dell 1600x1200.
Laptop use - automatically 1450x1050.
I usually shutdown and restart too, so I'm sure this helps (with my network and DSL connections as well). And I'm still on the modded driver.
