In the the thread Windows 8 on T43 the issue of installing Windows 8 on a T43 is discussed, with a bit of debate also about whether Windows 8 can (or cannot?) be installed on a T42. There are various claims that Windows 8 cannot be installed on a ThinkPad T42/p (due to the lack of PAE and NX support). Well, in relation to this, some readers of this forum might be interested in the fact... that one T42-user has actually succeeded in installing Windows 8 on his T42!
I just found this post pointing to the thread Win 8, bypass PAE/NX/SSE2 check (see page 12) and finally I found this post where it says the following:
The above only information shared if there are some technically advanced people in this forum who would also like to start playing with Win 8 on their T42's!tomchr wrote:It works! I finally got Windows 8.1 up and running on an old T42 1.8 GHz Pentium-M ThinkPad with 2 GB RAM!
Its Pentium M (Dothan) CPU doesn't have PAE or NX, but the system runs nicely, after the boot error 0xc0000428 was removed. However, I haven't been able to install a suitable driver for the Radeon Mobility 9600 Graphics card.
I have tried installing the Catalyst vista driver called '10-2_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc', but the system complains that the driver isn't compatible, so the system runs on the "standard VGA Graphics Adapter".
Any suggestions regarding drivers for the Radeon Mobility 9600 GPU?
