T30/Intel 2200 card
T30/Intel 2200 card
Ganglia,
Does anyone want to consult on how/why the power cord is different on the Intel 2200B/G card and whether I can make it work with my T30 2366-92u?
I found that the Xircom B-only card appears to have a two-prong slide-on power connection. The Intel card seems to have a different snap-on type connection.
So . . . .
-could a trained professional simply put a new cap on my power cords so it might connect to the Intel card?
-do I need to find a new card by checking the serial numbers to get a compatible version?
-is there another more-better B/G card out there?
Thanks for all the learnin. . .
David

You need a power plug for your wireless card? I just poped the back of my T30 off and the only thing that needs any power was my modem card. The only thing plugged into my wireless card is the antennas. I would think that the mini PCI card would get all its power from the PCI slot.
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... 2p1840.pdf page 71 and on has everything you need to know about the miniPCI card and the daughter cards.
OK I did a little more digging. It looks like your T30 has a miniPCI that does both wireless and handles modem duties as well. So that power plug that you see is for the modem features and not power. It looks like you may lose modem useability if you swap out the wireless cards. But that is just my best guess right now.

T30 and 2200 b/g card
Tres cool,
Thanks for the legwork, Trev. I spent my time today (less productively)talking to Lenovo/Thinkpad Tech Support and had someone tell me that the T30 isn't b/g compatible.
I'll check the site you mentioned, but your advice appears on target. The Intel 2200 card looks not to have the same connection and Xircom is the maker's mark on my current B-only card.
Might B worth losing the internal modem as I rarely use it.

pish posh, it'll work fine, make sure you apply the no1802 hack and install the card into the system. That "power cord" you speak of is not a power cord, rather it's the lead for the modem port on the back of the computer and won't plug into the 2200bg card.

Hacking help in Boston?
Thanks for the learning and the encouragement. But I'm also wondering if anyone nearby to Boston might want a frosty beverage (or several) and help me figure out why IBM Access keeps knocking out my WindowsXP wireless settings. Maybe there are other changes to make before swapping the B/G card.
I'm happy to meet up and bring the toys (and refreshments)

I've had this problem off and on but mostly "off" lately, but today, my High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with Modem II in my T30 quit responding all together. It did connect once this morning so I know it works...but usually uninstalling it and reinstalling makes it work. However, even when I do this, another driver (some type of High Rate Combo card) often tries to go in instead of this one (it's digitally signed so it goes in without issue but once in, there is a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager so I have to always uninstall it) and for this particular driver, my computer warns me that it is not signed by microsoft but I install it anyway and it seems to be the right one....but still no connection, at least today....Does anyone know any "newer" drivers that may work...I have the A/B card...not G.
It's gotten frustrating and never have I spent most of the day trying to get it to work like this before.
My wireless access point sits on my desk and others connect to it without any issue, so I know that's not the problem.
