Battery woes on my new (used) machine.... :(

#1 Post by UTCowMan » Mon May 16, 2005 7:48 pm

I just got a new T42 that's about a year old, and I thought the battery power was going to be a little better. Right now, it lasts about 2 hours off the hook, and that's just not cutting it for me.

What is the weight of both the 6-cell and the 9-cell? How much larger is the 9cell? Can a different charger charge the battery faster/better?

How long does a brand new 6-cell last and how long does it take for it to go sour? ...how much is it typically?

How long does a brand new 9-cell last and how long does it take for it to go sour? ...how much is it typically?

What are my battery addons besides that? Can I remove the CD-ROM and put a battery in it's place? How long would that battery last and how much?

I know my questions are all the same, but I have no idea :-/.

Thanks!

Not sure about the 6 vs 9 cell battery weights, but would say the 2 hours is good on an old battery. Check the battery stats and see how many charge cycles etc. Again, for a used battery, very good at 2 hours. I think the concensus is that a battery is good for about a year with typical charge cycles, before you notice true loss of capacity.

How do I see how many charge cycles it's gone through?

Right click on the battery monitor, and then select status and information or something like that.

But has tou T42 an flexview pannel? (15" SXGA or UXGA) Since my brand new T42 (who is for sale :P) only gets max 3:40 out of 1 6Cell battery.

i get about 2.5-3 hours of continuous use with a 6 cell battery, depending on what im doing. this is while running the cpu and video card at the slowest settings.

i also thought i would get better battery life. after all, ibm claimed 4 hours on a 6 cell battery

I get 4 with standard.
Standard plus ultrabay = 6.5hr
extended plus ultrabay = 8hr or so.
