Upgrading T42 RAM question...

#1 Post by Antioch » Mon May 16, 2005 7:54 pm

I wanted to upgrade my T42's RAM and I'm not too sure what I should do - so I'd like some input. I know I have a stick of 512 DDR333 RAM in there so I know I need to get DDR333, but what latency? Laptop RAM is how many pins? (Sorry for the questions - never upgraded a laptop before or even opened one for that matter). Anything else I should know?

Anyways, thanks for the information.

Here is a link to Crucial Tech's website. It will walk you through all the steps to determine what you should get. Crucial has great ram at great prices.

Overview, laptop including Thinkpad is using a smaller form factor of RAM called SODIMM. The one that T42 supports is either SODIMM DDR-2700 or DDR-3200. The 3200 is faster than 2700 but may not get benefit from T42 systemboard but their price are not much different, so I'd say you should go for the faster one. Regarding the size, it depends on your requirement but I'd say another 512MB (total of 1GB) would generally be more than enough for most workload.
