serial port addition to T40

Anyone know the pin outs to the docking station replicator port that deal with the T40 onboard DB9 serial port? I want to possibly add one where the useless parallel port resides or where space allows. I plan on soldering into the replicator port contacts and bringing out to DB9 female socket and mounting to case wherever there is room. Cisco class recommends a serial port over a USB adapter whenever possible and I have had no luck with prolific drivers.

You might find it easier to tap the onboard level shifter / transceiver, than to hack the dock connector. Our esteemed Raceboy did this, and has pictures to show.

A strange question - is there a chance the Ultrabay serial/parallel adapter for a T6x will work in a T4x?

All of Lenovo's documentation says it's only for T6x, though, so probably not...

The T6x has an extra connector in the Ultrabay for the Ser/Par adapter, located between battery and CD-connector.
Not so on a T4x mobo.

Oh hell yeah, tap into the MAXxxxx chip, brilliant! I didn't realize it was only 3 pins needed. I'll post some juicy dissection pics.
