T43 2687D7U -- Update: Lenovo won't honor my original quote
T43 2687D7U -- Update: Lenovo won't honor my original quote
I spoke to a phone rep this morning and gave him my desired specs. He came back with this model:
T43 2687D7U
14.1" SXGA+
Pentium M 1.86
512 MB
40GB @ 5400rpm
Radeon x300
3 year warranty
$1311.79 after EPP
I am going to be mainly doing research and legal writing on this laptop, but I would like the ability to play the occasional game. I don't need Halflife 2 to run at the highest resolution with all of the effects turned on, just something reasonably playable.
I want the SXGA screen for web design work and I'd rather be able to zoom in on something if it's too small than not be able to zoom out with an XGA screen.
I have a separate media drive so the internal disk space isn't too important to me.
Are there any other models with similar specs/prices that might be better suited for me before I place the order tomorrow? I wanted to only buy 256 MB of RAM and get the rest from a third-party to save money, but the phone rep told me they only sold SXGA models with 512 minimum.
Edit:
I just spoke to Lenovo again and the new sales rep told me he wouldn't honor the $1,311.79 price that my first rep quoted me. The new rep told me that my original rep had looked at the wrong model number. However, I have an e-mail from my original rep that lists the correct model number.
Are there any IBM/Lenovo experts out there who know the proper way to get my quote honored? I don't think it's right (or legal) for them to quote me a price at noon and reneg on it only 90 minutes later. If the original rep did indeed misspeak, that isn't my fault. This isn't a case of a newspaper missprint; I spoke to an actual Lenovo employee who quoted me a specific price for a specific model.

[censored] i thought when company quotes a price for something they're by federal law obligated to honor it, and dont give any bullcrap... because if it wasnt like that then what would be the point of quoting prices for products and services
in my opinion the fact of them refusing to honor a quote price sucks!, i would've request to talk to a supervisor or manager.
good luck buddy.
ps: plus if i had the chance to buy with epp and this kind of trouble happens i would simply go crazy till solutions... let me use your epp and i'll show you lol

IBM ThinkPad T43 2668-72u + RAM upgraded to 1GB = not just as best for business but also as best all-purpose professional portable computer ever!
Well, IBM/Lenovo did right by me. My original rep called me back this afternoon and apologized for the mixup. He said he couldn't give me the price he originally quoted me, but he did find a different model that was only $50 more for the same specs and this new model had Bluetooth, something he knew I was looking for. We closed the deal on the phone and my new laptop will be here in a week or two.
what's the model for the one that is $50 more? cuz i just bought a T43 thru the EPP as well. mine's the 2687D3U
14.1 SXGA
64MB ATI X300
1.86 ghz, 512 RAM memory
60GB HD
DVD burner
no bluetooth =(
fingerprint scanner
extended 9 cell battery
3 year warranty
all this for $1,559.20... to get the bluetooth with this configuration would have been to pay substantially more, $1889, but that would include a 80GB drive, and 2Ghz.. and i don't need that much space, it only includes a 6 cell battery, and the increased processor speed is moot. so not worth it to pay more just for bluetooth... anywaaaaaaay, my real point is below:
i wonder if the one you got for $50 more with the bluetooth, are you sure it's the SXGA screen? because the one you listed shows up as $1486...
anyway, just trying to help you out by making sure you're getting the right resolution for your T43!

First off, prices are subject to change without notice.
Secondly, errors happen and can be corrected.
When you go into a FRY's, Target, etc. and they have an advertised product that was priced incorrectly, they post a correction in the store, with an apology that the store "regrets any inconvenience that it has caused".
This is basically the same thing.
Lenovo realized it had made a mistake, and are under no obligation to build and ship the notebook at that price.

Andrew, there is a difference between a typo in an advertisement, which I agree is not legally binding, and an agreed-upon price quote between an officer of the company (the sales rep) and the customer, which is a verbal contract. Had I pushed the issue and requested the audio log tapes from IBM's customer service center to prove there was a conversation where we had agreed on that price, etc., I most certainly would have won out in the end, if not with Lenovo's customer service then definitely in court. The question was whether it was worth my time to do that for $175. In this case it certainly wasn't.aamsel wrote:First off, prices are subject to change without notice.

The model I ended up purchasing was the 2668-4EU, which came to $1,383.85 before taxes and shipping with the EPP.rxl77 wrote:what's the model for the one that is $50 more? cuz i just bought a T43 thru the EPP as well. mine's the 2687D3U
My model does not have the 60GB HD or the DVD burner but it has bluetooth. The Bluetooth is more important to me than more disk space or a burner because I have both of those things already on my desktop.[/quote]
To make this useless thread even longer: it were only a verbal contract if you had BOUGHT the notebook over the phone.gentoo wrote: there is a difference between a typo in an advertisement, which I agree is not legally binding, and an agreed-upon price quote between an officer of the company (the sales rep) and the customer, which is a verbal contract.

To be even longer, a under the UCC a contract MUST be in writing if between merchants (not the case here), or for the sale of goods over $500 (gotcha).
"An atheist is just somebody who feels about Yahweh the way any decent Christian feels about Thor or Baal or the golden calf. As has been said before, we are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further."
