HD Speed on 2373M3U?

#1 Post by Xyrus » Tue May 17, 2005 7:49 pm

Isn't the harddrive on the 2373M3U supposed to be a 60GB 7200RPM drive? If you go here (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... hEntry.y=0), it says "60GB 5400rpm HDD". Is this information incorrect, or did they change it or what? On the tabook it says "60U", which I have always believed to be a 60gig 7200rpm drive. Am I mistaken?

Also, I don't think this has any effect on the webpage (or it shouldn't) but I'm actually on a Toshiba laptop (Satellite S155-1335 I think...not that great), so it obviously won't detect the Thinkpad which I don't have.

Ouch, that would suck. I just checked on Newegg and the Hitachi Travelstar thingy...the 7k60 is $210, so it's not something I would want to buy, since some people say that the difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm is not that much, and it's only the difference between 4200rpm and anything else that matters (because 4200 is really slow...it's what I have now   ) Can anyone confirm or deny that they have discontinued the 7k60 HDD for the M3U?

i just check and it's still 7k60...

download the May tabook.pdf (rev 291)....it said it's a 7200rpm for m3u.

Because the HD shortage, many TP with 7k60 has the long delay...if you order something with 5400 HD, you should get it faster.

Excellent, thanks for the info. Yeah I checked the tabook too, but I just wanted to make sure because the IBM (not Lenovo) website says 5400rpm. But it's probably still 7k60 since that's what's in the tabook.

Cheers

I can't confirm changes in what's available but the 7200rpm drive is considerably faster than 5400s in terms of access speed and bootup and hibernate operations.

It is 7200rpm Hitachi.

Definately.

A 2373M3U shipped to me yesterday, and I got the serial number and did a parts lookup.
