T41 Memory Upgrade

I am planning to add 1GB or 512MB of memory to my T41. Do I need to get the ram from IBM or can I just get it from any computer stores than sell Notebook PC-2700 ram?

Does IBM add anything to the computer BIOS again to forbid using ram sold other than from IBM?

It's just RAM. You can get it anywhere as long as it's the right kind. Go to crucial.com or kingston.com to find the exact RAM your system would need with the ram configuration utility.

(I'm sure someone can give you the exact answer, but teach a man to fish...)

I just did that a week ago and you just need to have:
SODIMM PC2700 (DDR333) up to 1GB
