Rescue and Recov. 2 - without a cd-burner?

#1 Post by Bigby » Wed May 18, 2005 6:27 pm

My T42 has no cd/dvd-burner.

Is it possible to make a set of rescue discs (complete image) with the new version 2 of R&R?

If I use this program to save a disk image on my desktop-pc (via the network), can I later install this image by just pressing the blue button on startup - does this give acces to the network? Or do I need a boot-cd?

If I need some sort of boot-cd, how do I make it without a cd-burner? Is it possible to create an image file, move it thru the network and burn it on the desktop?

Im not looking for backup of data files - I have all my documents and email on the desktop anyway. I just need a quick and foolproof way of restoring my entire T42 setup in case of crisis.

Yes, you have access with R&R to network drives in the preboot phase, you need only a boot CD when the hdd is totally crashed.

I think the easiest way is to buy an usb burner (or better the ultrabay burner) or call IBM for the recovery CDs which include the boot CD.
