Thinkpad T42(2373R94)

#1 Post by rmks99 » Wed May 18, 2005 10:08 pm

Hello,

I have been given this T42(2373R94) from my office and I am having issues getting the display changed to 1400X1050.

The default shown as maximum is 1024X768.

I need to know if there is a way to get this changed ?
Please update if this is possible and if so how? I am running Windows 2K SP3.

thanks, themericano

That model has an XGA (1024X768) display and there is no way to force it to display a complete SXGA+ (1400X1050) desktop.

LCDs have fixed display resolutions, unlike a CRT. In order to show an SXGA+ image on that model you would have to enable the display to "overlap" the edges and scroll the image.

Is there any hardware I need to purchase to get the SXGA+ without having my monitor to scroll around?

OR would it be possible that I can move any hardware for video from my T30 to the new T42..would that work?

thanks, Themericano

You are better off selling the notebook and using the proceeds to buy one with a SXGA+ screen.

It has to do with the physical pixels in your screen. Your screen PHYSICALLY has 1024 individual pixels across & 768 individual pixels down (1024x768). You can't "add" pixels to your screen without replacing the entire LCD screen, which would be hundreds of dollars.

Think of pixels as the thread count in bed sheets/linens. You can't go from 300ct sheets to 500ct sheets just by squeezing the sheet together. You have to BUY a new sheet if you want 500ct thread sheets.
