What is the best price/feature T43p? 2687E4U?

#1 Post by CoolDragon » Thu May 19, 2005 2:25 am

I nearly ordered a 2668C4U today, but later I noticed that 2668H4U is priced almost the same as 2668C4U while 2668H4U is better than C4U.

Then I noticed a bunch of guys in this forum on order 2687E4U, but I cannot find this in the tabbook. The IBM website's spec about this machine is: (No RAM, No WLAN, No Battery? But has WLAN antenna and Bluetooth?)

Edit on May 22: I finally ordered the 2687E4U with education discount. It is not a bad deal at all. Anyway, I ordered the 2687E4U with some options, though I don't need the 256M RAM and XP Home, but you have no choice, right? They give me a free Port Replicator II. Maybe I can sell those three things on ebay :-).

The shipping date is estimated to be June 22, not so bad, but regarding so many delays heard from other guys in this forum, I don't believe this shipping date at all. But I do not need this new T43p now, I wanted to buy it ever since last December, so I guess I can still wait for a while.

Oh, I see, the 2668E4U is a barebone model, you have to add RAM, HDD, Battery, WLAN etc ...... by yourself.

When you buy a CTO model, you don't add the options "by yourself".
You pick RAM, hard drive, wireless, optical, etc. to make a "valid system" configuration. It has to be valid for them to ship it for you.
In other words, if you went on the web and configured a CTO without a hard drive or without memory, it is not valid.

If you have any interest in a CTO model, it is best to call someone in IBM sales for assistance.

So Andrew, do you mean for E4U model, you don't have to pick all the options to make it "valid"?

What exactly does the E4U have?

The funny thing is that I only ordered the barebone itself and it is done. However, I haven't received the computer yet, but I received severial options.

I buy the memory and HD from other company. Is that in trouble?

You do have to pick any hard drive on the list, (1) RAM module any size on the list, (1) optical drive, and a battery. Wireless is optional.

I got the 2687E9U CTO model.
It is best to call an IBM sales person, because if you make a mistake, the order may not ship.

If you don't include memory and a hard drive in a CTO order, the order is not likely to ship. At least, that is what I was told.
It has to be a "valid configuration" meaning a complete computer.

Interesting. Teresa never seems to have a problem getting one to ship.

I just ask two reps, it seems like one barebone is no problem.Hopefully they are right!

When I try to order use phone, they will require me to get all those components.
