T43, issues with Thinkvantage Power Manager
T43, issues with Thinkvantage Power Manager
Hi everyone, this is my first time using this forum so please bear with me. I have owned a few Thinkpads over the years, T23 and now a T43. Its a wonderful machine.
Recently I had an issue with a virus and it took some effort to fix the problem. after all the messing with my OS I decided to restore to factory spec. This went very smooth and its running very well now.
However when I installed the latest version of Thinkvantage Power manager, it causes the Laptop to freeze completely.
Has anyone else came across this issue?
I am trying to achieve a freshly installed OS (XP) with all the programs updated, all my personal settings and then take an IBM Rescue and recovery base backup of this so that I can always revert back to this Known good point. Any advice or tips regarding this process would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Padraic.

Re: T43, issues with Thinkvantage Power Manager
I have seen this issue with newer versions of Power Manager and older Thinkpads. Install an older version. Unfortunately I cannot tell you for sure when the broken behavior started, but versions 1.xx (for XP) and 3.xx (for Vista/7) should be fine.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I have looked on the web for older versions but all I can find is the latest version, do you know if it is still possible to download an older version?

Hi, I'm running XP
Re: T43, issues with Thinkvantage Power Manager
Try version 1.54:

Or even 1.48, which has a faster, slimmer user interface:

Re: T43, issues with Thinkvantage Power Manager
Hi All,
I've followed dr_st's advice above (given with WXP in mind) and installed Power Manager v1.54 on my T42 running W7. Unfortunately some of the features don't work. For instance, predefined power schemes in Settings > Power Scheme tab have all dots gray while some of them should be green representing parameter value set. Selecting any of them and pressing Apply or OK doesn't have any effect at all. I can go through the 2-page dialogue when adding a new scheme but no scheme is created when I press Finish. When I press Fn+F3 I get a black window with all those predefined schemes displayed but clicking any of them doesn't have any effect either (the window doesn't even go away upon that, as if their clicking calls no routine whatsoever). My PM driver is the latest one to my knowledge, v1.67.11.8 dated 20/01/2016. Both PM and PM Driver were installed by putting their respective Setup file into WXPSP3 compatibility mode first, and then running it from under Administrator.
Just tried downgrating PM to v1.48. Now I do see green bars representing parameter values set for every predefined scheme, however the OK button is grayed out this time. Fn+F3 displays the very same black window with all those predefined schemes, which does disappear upon clicking any of them but that still doesn't seem to have any effect, at least screen brightness remains unchanged.
Has anyone got any of these, or in fact any PM versions working 100% correctly on their T40-T42 running W7? (not sure whether to mention T43 here as it's kinda special)
Many thanks in advance!
