Fresh Order t42

#1 Post by bigndude » Sat May 21, 2005 1:30 pm

Well after going back and forth between a T43 74U and a T42 M1U I decided to go for the M1U. I was wondering if anyone here had one and how they like it. I am so pumped right now but the downside is the wait time, they say it won't ship until July  . Anyone ever had an experience with IBMs wait time, and if so how much sooner or later did it arrive then expected?

I ordered an X32 and a T42 on 5/2 with an estimated ship date of 6/15. Last update put the X32 with an estimated date of 6/9 and the T42 with "call". The mini-dock upgrades have already arrived, though. :)

uhmmm.. who's wait time..??
did you say IBM..??
IBM is only the logo and previous owner..
now it will be lenovo's wait time and so far, the wait is long..

Yup, I ordered a T42 2373M3U last week. It very similar to your M1U excpet has a different wi-fi chipset, and a different hard drive. Anyhow my wait was originally stated to be June 23 but has pushed all the way back to June 29. I dunno if I can wait that long, I already waited through 4 months of reasearch and lusting.

Weird I just checked again, and it says my order is in the packing stage, but when I look at the order detail it says 6/28 is the ship date. I'm crossing my fingers, but not getting my hopes up.

Mine is in "packing" state for four weeks long. My rep told me it is a wrong state there.

I bought another one before this IBM-Lenovo transition, the packing state only last two days.

I really hope that this whole Lenovo switch thing doesn't cause any problems in shipping. I can wait until the expected date in July but anymore and I think I may go insane. I hope mine will at least update soon though, it still says call.

I'm really not sure what happened - but the M3U I ordered on wednesday night 5/18 which was supposed to have a 4-6 week wait time shipped today 5/23. But even more shocking - it shipped with next day ups instead of the free ground shipping I had paid for. So if it comes tomorrow as expected I will have received it 6 days after my order. It's possible that it's only one part of the laptop, but I don't think so. I'm sure this is not typical, but it sure is interesting (and fortunate!).

Hmm. I ordered a T43 2687-D3U (14.1sxga, 1.86ghz, 512ram, fingerprint, 60gb, dvd-burner, 9cell battery) on a Sunday, May 15. It was shipped on Tuesday from Hong Kong, and I received it on Friday the 20th. So essentially five days after I placed the order, the laptop was in my hands as well as the Mini-Dock (which shipped separately from somewhere in the USA, but somehow UPS or Lenovo coordinated it well so that they were both delivered at the same time).

I suppose because I ordered an Express model that it came quicker, and also I think T42's are probably in high demand. Anyway, I love the T43. Keyboard, trackpoint are amazing. Performance is fine for my needs. Fingerprint is nice, isn't consistent, so novelty wore off. Haven't tried burning CDs or DVDs yet, but will.

Mini-dock just makes everything ten times better - 4 USB ports, S-Video, DVI, etc - and the convenience of just unhooking the laptop, throwing it into my case and GO. Mini-dock has its own power ac adapter too, so my ac adapter for my laptop is purely for on-the-go usage.

Sweet!

I too ordered an M3U last week, wednesday morning. My ship date was reported to be 6/27/05 and yet it shipped yesterday! Maybe a dirth of M3U's appeared suddenly or maybe its and error. Lets both hope for the former.

Well according to UPS (and the tracking number lenovo gave me) there is a 4.4Kg package being shipped from Honk Kong over to my place in the states. I can't imagine that it is anything else, now I am just worried they sent the correct unit with the correct components. Anyhow I'm way too excited at this point, unless it gets stuck in customs my T42 M3U should be here tomorrow.

You guys are lucky as you went with the 1.86ghz PM's.

I heard Intel just can't make the higher frequency PM processors & sonoma chipsets fast enough. Demand is outpacing availability, so I suspect it was just bad timing all around with the lenovo transfer occuring in the middle of this as well.

Hopefully Intel can get ahead and release more product.

IBM really must have gotten a new shipment of processors because mine shipped today. I am really excited because I thought it wouldn't come until July. I can't wait to get the tracking info, and to get my M1U.
Edit- Wow, my T42 also shipped next day air, which means I will get it tomorrow, wow am I happy with IBMs awesome service. Downside is I'm not home all day tomorrow.

I decided on a T43 2668-4DU instead of T42 1.8 or 1.7GHz because of the delay. I wanted a M3U or M1U but the rep told me any Thinkpad with 1.7 or 1.8 processor would be mid June before it shipped (I've had my 43 for a week). Those processors were on "worldwide shortage".

My T43 also shipped by next day air, but was in Customs delay for 3 days. Ugh!

Current:
T43 2668-4DU - 1.86 PM750 | 14" SXGA+ x300 | 1GB | 100GB-7200(UG) | CDRW/DVD | Intel BG
T30 2366-61U - 1.3 P4M | 14" XGA R7500 | 512MB | 20GB | CDRW

Me too dude, 'cept mine is in Ontario Ca. Does yours say: SHIPMENT PENDING RELEASE FROM CLEARANCE AGENCY;BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE??? [censored], I want it now!!! Anyhow, you should check your bank statements, something funny is going on with mine. The charge for the laptop appeared as pending online last week. Now it has dissapeared. I just want to make sure they don't charge me when I'm up to my limit so I'm going to have to call them and see whats up with that.

My statement has been rectified, it seems that the purchase does not actually go through until the laptop cleared customs (in my case 5/25). As of this morning my laptop is on the delivery truck!!!

You guys lucked out. I've been calling UPS and they insist there is no next day international only express. In addition to this mine won't be arriving until Tuesday!!! I really dislike UPS so very much, always have and forever will.

Yeah there is no next day, mine shipped on the 23 (Hong Kong time, so the 22nd here) and arrived today, the 26. That is the 4th day by my count, with 1 day in customs, so my 2 day express was actually 3 days.

Correct, there is no next day international - that's just what it said in my IBM/Lenovo order status page.

On another note- this baby is sweet!

I called ups again and this time they gave me a little more info. If your package ships from HK before 1230pm their time you will get it next day before 1030 am. If not then it will take an extra day. How lucky for me that the extra might be memorial day. Hopefully IBM got mine out before 1230, and hopefully it doesnt get caught up in customs like others

I've used it basically all day. What I can say for sure is, it sure is quick, really quick. No lag. Fingerprint reader has not misread once. It works perfect. I give it a 100/100 so far.
