T20 + XP sp2 = 802.11g cardbus errors.

#1 Post by mlrtime » Sun May 22, 2005 12:05 pm

Hey all,

I just purchased a Trendnet TEW-421PC 802.11g pcmcia card . I installed the latest drivers and the utility on a IBM thinkpad T20 with xp sp2. The os was just installed about 2 months ago.

The os does not recognize the card if I boot with card inserted. If I
boot without card, then insert, it always asks for drivers. Upon loading
drivers it either crashes the os or gives me a 'Device failed to start (error 10)'

I also just got a dlink 802.11g card that is giving the same problem so I don't think it is a specific card.

I have a Avaya 802.11b silver card that is currently working but sometimes disconnects completely.

I have bios v1.22 and controler v1.06. I also have the latest driver versions from the thinkpad software installer.

Any ideas?
thanks for the help, mlr

I was just about to order this Trendnet card from Newegg because of the good user reviews many of whom are XP users, check link below:

Could the fault be something else in your laptop and not XP ?

Thats exactly where I got it, also based on reviews.

I do have a Avaya (orinoco) silver 802.11b card that I'm using right now without any problems (some interference). However it seems any new card i put in gives the device errors.

Sounds like same issue with Netgear Cards

Had a similar issue with a netgear wireless card which I think has the same chipset.

Had to disable powermanagement features for the PCI/ PC Cardbus section in your BIOS. Can't remember what the exact item was but once I disabled the powermanagement features on the bus, card works fine. Apparently only an issue with the T2x series which have a Texas Instruments Cardbus controller.

Info on it here:

Hope this helps.
