Love it. I've always preferred high resolutions so UXGA on an 15" LCD is actually much more readable than on a 6-yo 19" CRT. It is DEFEINTELY not for everyone though, you really should see it on another laptop before you make a decision.

There are 4 main drawbacks to a higher-res screen:

1) a bit heavier. Probably not that noticeable compared to SXGA+, but you notice all the "ideal" weight calculations on manufacturers' sites are using XGA resolution.

2) Need to run higher backlight brightness in the sun - smaller fonts are harder to read when the contrast washes out. Also, for the same reason the mouse cursor can be a bit difficult to find :P

3) Slower graphics updates. What would run smoothly at 1024x768 may start to stutter a bit at 1600x1200 - since the app has to "paint" on more of the screen to cover the same proportion of it. This is especially true if you use applets with large fonts or high levels of transparency (like a dock).

4) "Slower" trackpad movements, especially if you like the "enhanced precision" acceleration mode. With a 1600x1200 screen it has to travel a longer distance. And using the highest speed setting without enhanced precision doesn't give you pixel-level control over the cursor. Third-party mouse/mouse drivers.

Other than these extremely minor gripes (I doubt (m)any would even notice them), I absolutely love having the extra real estate available.

flexview has better color..
UXGA bearable? this is subjective.. how good are your eyes..?
wear glasses..?? is the prescription up to date..?

for me, i prefer the realestate..
2nd choice would be a 15inch SXGA+..

They're great for images (speaking from experience with my 4 yr old dell with a 15 UXGA, I'm waiting on my T43p). Text is crisp but it can be small. Just increase font size in Windows, in your browser or wherever if it's too much. You can use larger icons too.

Not bad at all

I was worried about reading tiny text when I ordered my T42p. I generally like my text fairly large (yes, I'm getting old). Anyway, when I first got it I was very impressed with how clear the text was on it, even though it WAS tiny. I bumped the text and icon size in windows and got a pleasant surprise. Not only is the text larger (normal-size to me) it's very crisp because it's painted using additional pixels.

Fixed-pixel size objects (web-graphics, applets etc) can somtimes be a bit small, but the display is razor sharp, so it's seldom much of a problem.

If I were looking for something to grouse about, I'd mention that windows apparently calculates window dimensions for a number of things BEFORE it scales the fonts, so many of my control-panel windows etc. show up too small to display the text they contain, but they're easy enough to re-size.

All in all, I'm extremely happy with the 15" uxga screen. While I was initially skeptical, I'd buy it again without hesitation.
