Using old IBM HDD on T43/P

#1 Post by GlobetrotterDoug » Mon May 23, 2005 9:21 pm

I just got a T43/P model 2668-G5U. I popped my IBM 80G 5400 HDD it in and got an HDD 2010 error that says sometime like the HDD may not be supported--press F1 to set up and esc to continue. I press esc and all seems to be well but the error comes on every reboot even with a boot disk in the CD drive. The same is the case with every HDD I own even an older IBM 60G 7200 HDD with a different part number. Only when I put another IBM 60G HDD with the same part number is all OK. Does anyone know what is going on? Does the T43/P require a different HDD spec, if there is such a thing? If I can't get this solved, I'll return the T43/P and get another T42/P. I can't see any performance difference and the T42 has another PC card slot which I want. Thanks.

Doug

The hdd needs to be IBM supported and should have the latest firmware:

Can the utility be run from a bootable CD, or are you forced to have a diskette drive?

The firmware is updated with diskettes. You can create yourself a bootable CD if you want to spend time instead of 20 USD for a fdd.
