T43p with ATI X300??

#1 Post by FryPpy » Thu Oct 16, 2014 2:23 pm

I have this unit.
I thought that all T43p thinkpads have ATI FireGL V3200, but mine haven't.
It's type is 2668-CTO, Produt ID (from the same sticker) is 2668Y84. BIOS screen show the same 2558Y84. It is 15" UXGA, but windows says it is ATI x300.
Old Lenovo site is down to check what was inside black box when it leaves factory.
Other interesting thing - mainboard have orange ""SERVICABLE USED PART" sticker.

Where is the truth? ;)

The original specifications for the Y84 indeed mention FireGL:

Based on 2668-CTO: P M 770(2.13GHz), 1GB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HD, 15in 1600x1200 LCD, 128MB ATI FireGL V3200, CDRW/DVDR, Intel 802.11bg wireless(MPCI), Bluetooth/Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

It is possible that the motherboard has simply been replaced with a T43 variant, and the machine type has been modified.

It can also be that the Radeon driver is installed and picks up the FireGL as an X300.

Check the PCI device ID of your video adapter. X300 should be 1002:3152. V3200 should be 1002:3154.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

The motherboard should have a sticker with the FRU or P/N.
Compare that with this list on my website: http://theboardroom.info/ibm_list.htm#T43

Thanks for responding.
But windows and linux says that it 1002:5460????!!!

FRU under bottom memory stick is: 42T0067 (without "R" letter) but it 100% means this is X300 mainboard:)

The orange ""SERVICABLE USED PART" sticker is a dead giveaway that the original motherboard has been replaced.
Whomever sold you that as a T43p should be sent to a Siberian gulag...

Actually, a partially incorrect driver would "see" it as X600. I believe I've seen that...once...

Yep, seems like a plain old T43 planar to me - which will still drive the UXGA panel very well - but a "p" it's not in the GPU area, I'm afraid.

My mistake. I only looked at the first Mobility X300 device ID in my list. Apparently there are several, and 5460 is also an X300. So indeed - a plain old T43 planar, as ajkula66 put it.

It is ok. This is not daly driver - it is one of my museum of thinkpads. It is in good working condition. XP installed and ready to go. But i take rarely it to check battery or some old stuff.
If it is "serviced" by Lenovo i think it is less chance to have GPU problem.
May be one day... it can become T50... but not now:(

So this topic can be closed.

Yea, T43p have hot GPU and seems to be more problematic than T43 with cool X300.
