I've been using SpeedFan on my desktops for years. Never really bothered with it on my TP...the regular management is fine and I'm not much interested in how hot it runs (I never notice anyway)
It is a good program though...

The utility is useful for systemboards that feature fan speed controls - does anyone have insight into T-4xx specs?
Motherboards that are known to change fan speeds
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SpeedFan works perfectly as an hardware monitor tool almost on every hardware with available temperature sensors and can access S.M.A.R.T. data from hard disks on almost every motherboard. But some motherboards do include the needed circuitry to allow SpeedFan to change fan speeds based on temperature readouts. This is the listing of motherboards that can change fan speeds based of users' reports.

I only know there is IBM module for PCdoctor for dos that can change fan speed.
It is naturally closed source however...
