T40p Wireless Adapter Problem

#1 Post by megascribe » Thu Nov 20, 2014 2:57 pm

I have a T40p that runs fine. Comcast / Xfinity just upgraded my modem-router combo with a Technicolor TC8305C Wireless unite that combines both devices in one box. I love the thing. It gives much better connectivity and doesn't drop the line every other day around 2 PM like my other setup did. There are several new technology desktops in the house along with a couple of ancient laptops and a year old tablet that are all humming along - but not my T40p. It has a Cisco Systems PCI wireless LAN adapter, which worked fine with my old modem-router combo, but just won't connect with the new one. I have a dual boot setup with Win 7 Ultimate and Win XP Pro. The Wi-Fi signal shows up strong on both partitions, but when I try to connect to Win 7 it tells me the device is not compatible. When I try to hookup on the XP side it takes the SSID and password, but grinds away without making a connection. I thought these things were backwards compatible? So what are my options? Can I still get an upgraded Wi-Fi card to replace the PCI wireless LAN adapter on the motherboard or do I have to get some kind of external USB device to get the job done? I hope I don't have to do the latter.

The cheapest alternative would be an Intel 2200BG.
Or a wifi-N card: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291165751586
It may be necessary to mod the BIOS with NO-1802: http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/t ... error-fix/
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
