losing my internet connection - a/b/g driver or acc connect

#1 Post by leland » Wed May 25, 2005 11:58 am

Hey,

Just updated all my drivers using the lenovo updater. Now I lose my internet connection about once an hour.

This is on any connection, but most usually my WPA connection at home.

Does anyone know whether the problem is the a/b/g driver update or the access connection update? I'll uninstall then reinstall with the earlier version, just want to know which one to downgrade.

This is on a t42p 2373gvu.

Thanks!

I had the same problem and found that at both locations where I had the problem it was interference from other access points on the same or nearby channels. Try rebooting with your access point turned off and then scanning for other access points, and set your access point as far away as possible from channels used by nearby access points. Most likely, setting your access point to channel 11 will do it. You also might try getting an A/G access point as very few consumers use A.

use A (since so many G networks are likely around you) and keep your access points (antenna) directly above it, if they are upstairs and have to travel through to second floor. you can also consider an outdoor (heavy duty) dual band A/G antenna mounted high up on the outside of house for signal quality. they go for about $70 on ebay from time to time. constantly "resetting" is nerve racking and tiresome and worth the effort to resolve.

Use the current Thinkpad Software Installer to UNINSTALL the wireless drivers. Then, after a reboot, use the same program to install them again.

I was on channel 11 and there were 3 others on there (NYC apt building). 4 on channel 6. I switched channels to #3 and so far so good, should know by the end of the day.

Try channel 1, it is the "furthest", frequency-wise, from Ch 6 & 11.

I think most wireless AP's default to either ch11 or ch6 (linksys & dlink especially).

Personally, have been forced to run on Ch 1 as 5 of my neighbors are on Ch 6 & another 4 are on Ch 11. My equipment is "SuperG" compatable, but it doesn't work right @ my location due to all the noise on 6 & 11.

you might wanna dl netstumbler...you can see what every one around is running to determine if it is signal interference and if it is you will know which channel you should be using...I detect 18 different AP's from my room using 1, 2, 6, and 11.
