upgrading cpu on my T40 2373-14U?

#1 Post by Johnmilton » Wed May 25, 2005 2:13 pm

I am new member to this cool forum, I searched all over and couldn't find the answer to my question.

I just been given a T40 2373-14U Pentium M 1.3ghz and I need to run an application that runs on 1.4ghz and higher.
Can I upgrade the CPU to either 1.4 or 1.5ghz and would have to use a dothan or banias? .

Thanks a bunch in advance.

John

who determineג that u need 1.4 and higher ?
i really doubt you will see any difference if you will upgrade to 1.4 from 1.3 .

The software manufacturer's requirements are
http://www.seriousmagic.com/dvrcompatibility.cfm

I am no computer expert but I would think it won't make a difference but according to them it won't run on anything lower than 1.4ghz.

thanks for the reply, btw.

If you read between the lines, they probably mean a 1.4Ghz Pentium 4. Your 1.3Ghz Pentium-M should be more than enough.

They're specifically referring to a P4 processor. I wouldn't worry about it as your 1.3GHz Pentium M is equal to a ~1.8GHz P4.

Thanks a billion guys, I am making a film soon and I didn't want to have to spend extra $$ on upgrades if it wasn't necessary.

Thanks again.

even if it was Pentium M , it's only their recommendation.
worst case instead of waiting for your results for 20 min you would have to waited 25 min.
that is no reason to replace a computer IMO . functionally they both will do identical job , your wait time is all the difference.

In the past there where cases that CPU changed architecture like when they added MMX to the Pentiums family . and then it won't work for you if you didn’t have it and the application require that
But in your case your fine
