Between your minimum requirements and your maximum budget, I don't think there are any ThinkPads that fit the bill. Unless you're willing to compromise on one or the other...

You're going to have to compromise on something I think. Here are a few that are close:

Thinkpad R51 1849-6VU (1.73 ghz, 512, 60 gig, 64 meg ati x300, 15 inch 1024x768, xp pro, gigabit ethernet, built in b/g wireless, dvd/cdrw, 1 year warranty, no finger print reader) $1399 list
Thinkpad R51 1859-4AU (1.73 ghz, 512, 60 gig, media accelerator 900, 15 inch 1400x1050, xp pro, gigabit ethernet, built in a/b/g wireless, dvd/cdrw, 1 year warranty, no finger print reader) $1449 list

Both are potentially available for less if you have access to EPP or via the amex/visa type of discounts.

For T series I think you will have to maybe cut the ram to 256 and the hard disk to 40 gig to squeeze under the $1500 unless you have access to some of the discounts mentioned above...
Thinkpad T420 | Core i-5 2520M | 16gb RAM | 120gb Intel 520 SSD + 750gb 7200 RPM | 6300 N | Ubuntu 12.04 x64
Desktop: AMD FX-8350 (8 cores) | 32gb ECC RAM | 240gb Intel 530 SSD + 1tb 7200 RPM | Ubuntu 14.04 x64 | HP ZR24w
Previous Thinkpads: A21m, R40, X61, T410

Sounds like you might be part of a school (The Bishop School)? If so, there are some really good educational discounts depending on which catagory you fit into.

Take the fingerprint reader out of your minimum requirements. If you're trying to save cash, you shouldn't make gimmicks among your minimum requirements. Not to say that it can't be useful, but it definitely shoulnd't be considered a necessity.

It's certainly shouldn't be a necessity for someone on a tight budget.
