Enabling UDMA Mode 6 on SATA-modded T43p (main bay/ultrabay)
Here's the deal:
In the main bay of my SATA-modded T43p I have an Intel X-25E 64GB SSD running W7.
In UltraBay HDD carrier (generic) I have an Intel X-25E 32GB SSD running Cent OS.
HD Tune shows both drives as supporting UDMA Mode 6 (Ultra ATA 133), but as only UDMA Mode 5 (Ultra ATA 100) being active.
How do I enable the UDMA Mode 6?

In the ICH6 (T43/p Southbridge) manual it says: SATA interface transfer rates are independent of UDMA mode settings.
So it looks like that may not change anything.
But maybe this helps? http://www.overclock.net/t/650014/solve ... -reinstall

Given the transfer rates that I'm getting in the main bay which are above ATA-100, that piece of info seems to be on the money.RealBlackStuff wrote:In the ICH6 (T43/p Southbridge) manual it says: SATA interface transfer rates are independent of UDMA mode settings.

With that said, the UltraBay transfer rates are *way* slower and seem to be capped by ATA-100...
Looking into that one right now...But maybe this helps? http://www.overclock.net/t/650014/solve ... -reinstall

Re: Enabling UDMA Mode 6 on SATA-modded T43p (main bay/ultra
Here's the deal:
Because your T43p underwent bridgechipectomy (a surgical operation to remove the ATA-ATA bridge chip), the main bay (SATA channel zero) does not use PATA UDMA. From one ATA microchip (host controller) to the other (attachment, in this case SSD controller), is only SATA 1.5Gbps bus and signalling.
Between PATA host controller (Intel Alviso southbridge 82801FBM) and bridge chip (inside generic aftermarket Ultrabay Slim SATA HDD carrier) is a physical Parallel ATA bus, capable of Ultra DMA modes up to 5 (Ultra ATA/100). The SATA-to-PATA bridge might or might not support UDMA Mode 6. Intel refused to support Ultra ATA/133, Ultra DMA Mode 6; instead, Intel promoted SATA. Intel never produced an ICH nor other microchip which supported UDMA 6. (However, Intel might have made a 'premium or enthusiast' motherboard with extra features, including on-board PCI PATA controller which could utilise UDMA 6.)
Maybe try over-clocking PATA bus as a work-around?
'Intel™ SOLID-STATE DRIVE SPEED DEMON'
Now if I may go off-topic: last year, I played with bridge chips. In an experiment, I observed throughput of at least 109 Mo/s, going from SATA to PATA to SATA.

Re: Enabling UDMA Mode 6 on SATA-modded T43p (main bay/ultra
Automobus tested with a T43 with Intel graphics, which has a slightly different layout around the Sil-SATA-chip, compared to the Marvell-SATA-chip on a T43 with ATI graphics.
That's one of the reasons why I refuse to do SATA-mods on T43/R52 with Intel graphics.
What happens if you insert a 'standard' adapter with a PATA drive in the Ultrabay, still UDMA-5?

I don't have one of those to test...RealBlackStuff wrote:
