Anyone know where I can get a copy of the TP Hardware Maintenance Diskette v. 1.62 (or the files necessary to make the diskette)?
I'm having the system board replaced on my T30 and the guys that are going to do it (at an authorized IBM service shop!) don't have a clue about the need to retain serial numbers and assign the UUID. I don't think they even have the above mentioned Hardware Maintenance Diskette. So I will probably have to do this myself, hence my need for the diskette.

I am sure if they are an authorized IBM repair service center they can call IBM and request the program. If they don't have it they should request one anyways for future customer who may have same issue.
Tell them that's what they need to do.
The used X24 that I bought last week had the same problem. No serial and no UUID in BIOS. So I just took it to the service center and they will take care of it along with some other problems with the laptop. Gotta love warranty.

You are absolutely right, but it's not going to be easy to convince these folks of that. They don't seem to think it's necessary. I've even heard tales of TPs coming back from IBM's easy serv (Solectron?) with new system boards without having had the serial and UUID programed into the new board's EPROM. Nevertheless, I probably have no alternative to what you suggest.
If I could get the parts and the program it would be easier (and more convenient) for me to do the whole job myself.
I'm going to print out the relevant portion of the HMM and give it to them when I bring the computer in to have the job done.

A search of this forum results in this link to v1.69 :

You could try telling them that you want to see the TP Software Installer working properly before you accept the machine... That's the main app that needs the info.pae77 wrote:You are absolutely right, but it's not going to be easy to convince these folks of that. They don't seem to think it's necessary.
