What is your avg temperature on your T43 or T42?
What is your avg temperature on your T43 or T42?
I just thought I'd take a little poll to get a general idea on average use temps. I defined average use such as web browsing, maybe running winamp in the background, and using an office app. Obviously this is slightly subjective, but I'm just interested in average non-intensive tasks.
I monitor temps with Mobile Meter, a very small, low-resource using temp-monitoring app. My temps are 39 and 40 degrees celsius, toggling between the two. I have undervolted my 1.86 PM and have it running on adaptive, so it uses more speed only when required. I am quite pleased with my temps, and as a result my fan (which is always on) is barely audible.
Please feel free to comment on anything related...
EDIT: how do I change the poll options? Or would i have to create another one altogether...

Sorry, only so many slots are allowed for choices... I'd do more otherwise.
I know it's kind of limited, but I wanted to stick with generally 2 or 3 degree ranges..
After I get some more input, maybe i will eliminate some of the higher temperature ranges into 1 category, and add some for the lower temps. Also add a category for all other T4x series thinkpads besides T43 and T42.
K. Eng, those are impressively low temps.. What processor is in their? Is it undervolted? Any other mods, whether software or hardware?

Maybe it would have been more accurate polling if you had created two poll categories. From what i understand and have read, the t42 and the t42 are two different animals.
That way even the T4Xp models dont get left out
I'm not sure how the polls on phpBB work (if this is even phpBB), or whether you can have two polls in the same thread...hmmm.

at this moment when i'm typing this my CPU temp is 39 . fan is still on and at the same RPM that it usually runs.BoostedA4 wrote: I monitor temps with Mobile Meter, a very small, low-resource using temp-monitoring app. My temps are 39 and 40 degrees celsius, toggling between the two. .
how do you monitor the temp (can you explain in more details which soft u use and how can we get it)
And same thing for the method you used to lower the CPU voltage.
Is it stable like this ? is it safe to do ?
Thanks Danny

hmm it does seems to help.
i lowered mine at 0.2v . so far so good.
temp is 43C . i did see the fan off . and when it's on it's very low rpm now.
i mean i need to put my ear on it to hear.
i still don't have enough time with this . so this is from very short experience.
if the temp goes high because of a game or something, it takes forever to get back to 43. but if i'm turning it on from cold then it will stay there.
i'm getting about 4 hours without wireless on low brightness - on the 6 cell battery . on wireless i think it's 3:40 or so. need to check that again.
I have a question.
when i'm setting the ATI-Powerplay to low on AC it doesn't stay there if i'm switching to battery and back to AC. or if i reboot
any ideas ?
thanks Danny

The temperature depends on the ambient temperature. So the same laptop would show different results in different climates. It would be nice to do one more poll like this, but to take the ambient temperature into account. Googling for the formula it seems that the ambient temperature is added to the heat produced by the CPU. Therefor a good question would be what is your "CPUTemp - AmbientTemp"
