T41 lost drivers
T41 lost drivers
I have a T41 2373-7FU. I installed Windows 7 and about about six of system drivers disappeared. I have tried downloading new drivers from the Lenovo site and loading them. They load and I reboot and nothing. The network and wireless wizard says it can't find my hardware. I am trying to set this system up for donation, but nothing I do works, no wireless no Ethernet, no audio. I re-installed XP and no help. So if anybody has any ideas please HELP. I'm no dummy, I was a support tech. in the 80's and I'm pretty quick. So I would appreciate any advice, even if it's trash it. Thanks.

Re: T-41 LOST DRIVERS.
Welcome to thinkpads.com!
We're it me, I'd get an original factory XP recovery disk set. It will have all of the proper drivers (and some bloatware) but at least you can then troubleshoot the system and see if it has any broken hardware. Along those lines, if you can locate a PC Doctor for DOS diagnostic disk, that will help as well. The problem is that the factory discontinued support for this helpful diagnostic tool and PC Doctor, Inc. withdrew the entire line for Thinkpads from distribution. It was designed to test out almost all of the major components of the system. It operated as a bootable disk and thus you didn't need to have either a working hard drive or an operating system.
Edit: Just to be clear... when installing drivers for Thinkpad systems, you need to download the driver package from Lenovo Support (i.e, an .EXE file). You then execute that .EXE file which will create a C:\DRIVERS subdirectory. You then go to a specific C:\DRIVERS\ subdirectory and execute a file there (typically setup.exe, install.exe or whatever the install instructions say). That will then launch an installer to update the system. If you've done all that, then as long as you have selected the correct driver package AND the hardware is functional, it should work.
Wireless system is located on a MiniPCI card. It's possible that somebody has removed it (it's located under the palmrest). However, the ethernet and "sound card" are built into the motherboard and they should work. If you don't already have a copy, get the Hardware Maintenance Manual from here: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... 192_01.pdf If the Lenovo site is offline you can also obtain the HMMs from here: http://www.thinkpads.com/support/hmm/thinkpad-hmm.html
Also, you have a PM from me.

Re: T41 lost drivers
Here you can choose your product:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products?c=1
Here's a direct link to T41 downloads:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product ... inkpad-t41
Download at least the NIC drivers there.
A very comfortable way of solving all your driver problems is to use a program like IObit Driver Booster. It will find, update and install all the drivers you need.
