I just found this forum myself back in September and am a T40 owner (in my signature). It coexists with an N5110. I use both machines on a regular basis for university business; the T40 is a Windows XP machine while the N5110 is a Windows 7 machine.
Yes I have to agree. I bought a Lenovo branded T61 for my nephew about a year ago and while I was setting that machine up it felt very nice all the way. Then a friend of mine asked to switch the OS for his daughter's lower spec X61. And that felt like a very nice machine as well. After that I've been looking for some cheap Thinkpads and found this one.
Edit. Currently I'm working the Thinkpad with MX14-Linux, though I have to keep another hard drive with XP on it, though I really don't like the idea. Does the T41 run Win 7 decently? I have one Win 7 license lying around here somewhere...

The laptop still looks new if you are interested in the following photos.
The durability is of course a factor because this machine will be seeing some action at home and elsewhere

So probably it will look somewhat worse when fall comes. Then I'll have to clean it up again a little... Naah, I'll try to keep it tidy anyway...
The battery doesn't work too well, it has only about an hour worth of juice left (Haven't tried dimming the screen though). And your machine looks great, here's a quick snap of mine...
