Hi-
I am trying to set up my T42p (IBM a/b/g) to work with my existing ad-hoc wireless network. I can get my desktop to work with another comuter fine but I just can't seem to get my laptop. I have all the newest drivers and versions from IBM and I have also tried "letting windows manage my wireless connections" but nothing seems to work. I set it up correctly I think but it always says that it fails on "Waiting for IP configuration." I have the network as a 802.11g since both of my other computers have a b/g card. I can see the connection strength as 100% in the IBM Access Connections window before I try to connect but the funny thing is the speed is only 1 Mbps. It also says as an error message "The access point for the wireless network specified in this profile did not respond within a reasonable period of time." It is also weird I think that when i search for available networks, this one shows up as a 802.11b even though it is a g for the other computers. I don't have any security or encryption and my computers are literally sitting next to each other so it is not a question of range. This is really bugging me and I would greatly appreciate any help you might be able to give me. I don't know where to begin. Thanks!

I did see that thread and tried those things but still no luck. I do see a network there though - my wireless network shoes up fine I just can't connect. I am not not sure what to do at all now. I don't know how to check if it is a driver problem or not. I thought I had all the latest when I downloaded them.

Ok, I restored my laptop back to factory settings and I didn't create an access connections profile and it seems to work now!
the only thing is that the speed is 11 Mbps on my ad-hoc network. Before I logged on to the network with that it was 54. I assume this is that the laptop is logging in as a 802.11b instead of 802.11g that my other 2 computers use. Is there a way I can set it to use the g on the laptop since it slows the entire network down? When I tried to set it up before I think I remember that when I selected ad-hoc network it was grayed out and set to 802.11b. Is there a way around this? Thanks!
