Keyboard bezel fracture (minor damage)

#1 Post by K. Eng » Mon May 30, 2005 5:10 pm

The piece of plastic to the left of the Fn key broke. For those of you who are familiar with the T4x, it is the piece of plastic with a notch. The plastic cracked down the notch, and a sliver fell off.

I taped the small sliver of plastic back with some packing tape.

Does anyone know if the keyboard bezel is easy to replace? I'm thinking that it may not be worth the hassel of disasembling my machine yet again for such a minor repair.

Very easy. Four screws (I think it's just four) on the underside (the ones with little keyboard icons next to them), and the keyboard pops off by pulling it slightly towards the front and up). I don't have my T41 handy, but if the piece is part of the keyboard, that's it, and a new board is like $40.

If the piece is part of the hand rest, then once the keyboard's off,
then a row of screws (covered with black plastic tabs) along the front underedge, and one on each side (one under, near the hard drive/CD, the other exposed by removing the keyboard), and the handrest comes off. The nav pad is part of it, though, and you have to replace the whole thing, I suspect.
