Thinkpad T40 Ati/Intel Graphic question [SOLVED]

Hi everybody,

I'm wondering if ThinkPad T40 can use Intel Graphic (it is provided with intel chipset i855GM) instead of Ati Mobility Radeon 7500.

And I would like to know If I can sold on it an Ati 9600 chip.

Has somebody tried it yet?

I'm waiting your answers, please help me.

You can get different motherboards for the T40 with either Intel or ATI graphics.
You can NOT swap graphics between them or solder one on the other.

In addition to what RBS has already stated...

For Intel graphics, you'll need an appropriate board from R50 or R51.

Boards from T43/R52 will work as well, but will require different CPU and RAM.

The T40/41/42 were equipped with the Intel 855PM, which, unlike the 855GM, does not have integrated graphics.

axur I only have a question, I'm sure you are right about the chipset but CPU-Z (as you can see in the picture) shows me I have i855GM, how is it possible?

The two chipsets are virtually identical except for the presence of the graphics controller, so it's understandable that some software get confused/misidentify it.

To be 100% sure, open up the laptop and eyeball the markings on the northbridge.
