Hot Palm rest
Hot Palm rest
My new T43 arrived last week. The keyboard is Alps; I desired a Thai per the thoughts registered on this forum but one has no control over this?? The palm rest becomes rather warm on the right side over the hard drive; this problem was noted in some of the Dell notebooks. Anybody having similar heat problems. I wonder if a different keyboard would make a difference??
mine warms a little bit. I have been told this is more pronounced becuase I have the 7200 rpm hard drive. I should note that the palmrest area as a whole is much cooler than most other laptops I have used. My buddy has a VPR Matrix and it gets to hot it is un-useable. The ibm is quite good both in terms of noise and heat. For reference my model is the T42 2373M3U.

2373M3U - 1.8 Ghz, 1.5GB Ram, 60GB 7200 HD, 14.1" SXGA+, Radeon 9600 64MB, Fingerprint Reader.

The non fingerprint models appear to be running a bit cooler. The 7200 rpm disk in most cases runs around 34-37 C, unless you are accessing it continuously and running huge transfers or constant read / writes.
Depends on what kind of applications you are using, when compared to dell notebooks, ibm palmrests are much better under similar running conditions.
