T43p fan vs T43 fan and heatsink

Is that because the ATI Mobility FireGL V3200 256MB is a massive and oversized GPU chip?

Nope, the Fire GL T2 found in T41p and T42p had the cover of the same size as V3200. For reasons known only to themselves, IBM decided to cool the T2 in R50p passively...now that was a *really* bad idea...

BTW, V3200 only has 128MB of dedicated VRAM. The other 128MB gets borrowed from the system RAM.

The entire cooling concept of the "p" segment in T4x generation is pretty flawed IMO, but it is what it is. That's why we have undervolting to help us out on these machines.

Yeah, about 5% of the GPU heatsink is open. It's basically conduction anyway. The missing 5% wouldn't increase cooling in any measurable amount.

Two quick questions. The fans are glued or attached to the heat spreader without visible screw to disconnect the fan from the heat sink. Can I do the under volting using TPFancontrol? It runs at 1.35v under load and a little under 1.0v on battery power.

I was inspecting the M24 to see if ordering a new fan for the future would make sense but cannot find an easy way to dismount the fan.

Guys, I need to purchase other fan for my modded T43p (mobo from T43 with X300 graphics) because the current fan produces T43's-typical annoying sound when the fan shaft oscilates to the heatsink chassis, but I don't know which model to take. I know I can drill the hole to the fan cage in order to prevent contact between fan shaft and the cage, but it's quiet risky operation. Previously, I had T42p and the fan there was very silent. I was able to hear only the air flow on the left side of the ThinkPad. I can also remember that heatsink from T43p has had thicker heatpipes when comparing to T42p heatsink. Looking to eBay, some fans are having SEPA motors, some are having Toshiba motors and some are having foam pad on the bottom side so the fan's manufacturer can't be recognized. Please suggest some fan which is original, silent and reliable. Thanks.

Get the long M10 fan from a T41p/T42p, they are the best. FRU 13R2657 (EDIT: newer version: 41W5204)

RBS, I have that M10 from that seller. Does the M10 fit flush in the 14" T43p? My other T43 has the M24.

I finally solved this issue. Recently, I have purchased these spare fans from feebay:

and as I wrote in different topic, the cage with fan is a bit thicker than the original fan cage so after installing complete assembly into the ThinkPad shell, there might be some clearance between the heatsink and CPU core causing an overheating.
So I have solved this using this approach:
- take precise metal sheet scissors
- cut the cage of the new fan to make it thinner (remove 1mm of material)
- by doing this, you will completely remove the original rivets which are used to attach & secure the cage of the new fan to the old heatsink assembly
- buy two-component epoxy adhesive (I used Patex)
- fix the new fan cage position on the old heatsink and prevent its movement by securing both parts using clothes-pegs (yep, my wife was help me a lot)
- use the epoxy adhesive to make spots around new fan cage so both parts will be bonded together
- wait approximately 2 hours until the adhesive is well dried
- attach "new" fan to ThinkPad and enjoy

Result - "new", very silent fan/heatsink, well fitting into T4x series ThinkPad for only $3 (+$4 Patex adhesive). I will buy additional ~5 these fans to my stock so my T4x series collection can run for ages.
