my T43p doesn't has finger reader

#1 Post by nirvana0001 » Thu Jun 02, 2005 4:21 pm

I just got my t43p one hour ago. I am so disapointed because it doesn't come with finger reader. Wasn't it stardard on all t43? And also no bluetooth. My model is C4U. 2.13ghz, 1gb ram, 80GB hard drive(20 GB was used already  ), ati V3200. but consider i only paid $2679 for it, so not a big deal.
And here is something that i didn't see another people talk about: when i watch the DVD movie, i found out it can forward at 32X. So fast
And the lucky thing is it doesn't has dead pixel.

It is not standard on all the T43s. Looks like you have an education model. According to the tabook, none of the education models have fingerprint readers and the only education model listed to have bluetooth is the 2669CAU.

You've gotten a fantastic price for a very nice machine. Congrats.

By the way, advertised 80GB (decimal) actually means 74.5 GB (binary). There is also a 4GB hidden partition for the system recovery stuff. That's where most of your GBs went.

i'm considering buying the exact same computer through my school for about the same price. what are your initial impressions of it?(besides the lack of a fingerprint reader  ) i am very curious about the video card and the t43p's ability to play games like half life 2. i know that thinkpads are not gaming machines, but i would like to play occasionally. thanks for any insight you can give

my t43p is running very good on half-life 2. But if you play game a lot. I would recommand HP nw8240. it got a double score on 3dmark03 as t43p. 31xx vs 6xxx. :x
a lot people said the keyboard is very good. however, i think my old laptop is better a little bit (samsung P10), just my personal opinion.
whatever i don't think there's any laptop is better than thinkpad on the market, even t43p didn't give me any surprise 8) but it has a good balance between performance and weight, good quality, cunstom service, etc.

Hmm.. I got the first lappy in my sig for an education price.. If you're not happy return it and demand one that has it. You seem as if you were misinformed, but the tabook is also available, if you're not happy - don't settle.

Well there ya go, that ends that..

Besides, bluetooth is a commodity, not a neccessity... and fingerprint reader is a preference not a must and nor is it 100% secure.

If you're happy, be happy. 8)

I'm actually getting an education laptop as well. HOWEVER, I asked the sales representitive if it was possible to get the fingerprint reader separately and install it myself, and she said yes, telling me the price was $110 for the reader. However, I'm not sure if she's talking about the embedded reader or the USB one... the USB reader is only $70, so I'd assume she was talking about the one mounted in the case. Anybody have any more info on this?

EDIT: The system itself has the IBM Embedded Security system... just not the reader. Is this all that's required?

JujitsuFreak, nice pics of your system! Very nice! Hey, where do you practice Jiu-Jitsu, which belt? under who? I am a blue belt under DelaRiva! I am still waiting for my system - Status: Packing!

Hey, just ordered my laptop today, and I found out all that you need. For one, once you have your model, you can't add the Fingerprint Reader. The reason? Its hardwired directly into the BIOS, something I'm pretty sure you don't want to be doing by hand. So that settles it... even if you have the case, you can't add it manually.

Sorry for the hijacking,

Thanks felip,
DelaRiva sounds familiar  I study under Ed Melaugh here in NewEngland. After studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for 4 years, even though Im not a black belt, I felt somewhat proficient in my ground game. What concerned me more as I went along is the standup. So I found and located a great standup Jujitsu style. Have been there 2 years, Small Circle Jujitsu. Great instructor and we occasionaly work the ground so my experience on the ground isn't totally washed away with the new style, but the main focus is on standup and its practical uses.

It's JujitsuFreak's fault for this hijack as well ;)

Very nice T43 pictures! I've got the exact same laptop headed my way, hopefully by the end of June!

I also practice the arts. I've been training relatively long under the direction of Mr. Browning and his 19-11 adversarial take-down techniques. All & all, it's a relatively stable school which encourages private practice. One-on-one sparing is strictly forbidden during class and auditory nerve protection is extremely important.
