Bios update

#1 Post by tomc » Fri Jun 03, 2005 11:39 am

Hi all, I can't update my BIOS to the 3.16 version, I start the installer, next to all, restart Windows and boot normal, never enter into the BIOS Updater.
Any clues??

Tnx.

Are you plugged in to an AC adapter? It's required.

tom, try downloading and installing the ibm software installer.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... TE.html#DL

Run a scan for updates and install all the default-checked updates.

You might need to download an addtional update (I think it's like the onboard controller that needs to be updated in conjuction with this bios update).

Let me know if that helps.

Andy,
No luck :(, download the BIOS Update via Software Installer, start the Updater and same as before, boots normal, never enter into the BIOS Updater.

BIOS-update

#7 Post by kho-tele » Sun Jun 05, 2005 4:46 pm

Hi,

I was told by a technician from IBM, that sometimes a BIOS-update will be unsuccessfull due to a missing "embedded contoller"-level.
Because of that he always updates the embedded controller first and the BIOS secondly (you can find the embedded controller at: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-50277).

Try it and report back to us ....
Best Regards,

Ken

Ken,
I have the last version of the Embedded Controller (3.04) so I can't upgrade it.
I tought that I have a previous version and that was the reason I can't update the BIOS, but I have the last version, so I think is real strange.

Just a foolish thought:

has the BIOS-update been allowed in the BIOS-settings?
Best Regards,

Ken

ah yes, good call. while we're at it, just set the whole bios back to defaults to be safe...
