If you look here here you can see under "Optical Drives" it says CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo. But when I try to go and purchase it here (note: you may have to go down and press "View configuration and buy") you can see that for its optical drive, its only a mediocre DVD/CD Combo Slim! I thought I wanted CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo but instead, just before I'm about to purchase my IBM T41, it changes to a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM Combo drive!
I thought I said I wanted a CD-RW, not CD-ROM!

All right, this is the only thing that's stalling me from buying a T41 right now.

Can someboy please explain to me what's going on?

Re: I thought I said I wanted a CD-RW, not CD-ROM!
It has CD-RW/DVD. If it was a simple CD-ROM/DVD it should say DVD-ROM.

phat_mats: I have, but too bad living in Germany complicates calls to the US
G-Man: Thanks for the clarification.
Anyways, since I am currently stationed in Spangdahlem Air Force Base, Germany. I'm wondering how IBM will be able to ship their product to me. I browsed through the IBM website and I saw some mentioning that IBM is not able to ship their laptops to P.O. Boxes [which is my address]. Are there any alternatives that I have to take? Or can we just safely assume that I'm screwed?

Well, ship it to one of your relatives, friends, and he/she can ship it to Germany via FedEx, UPS etc. But I would call IBM, because I think it's possible to send it to an US Army address. Or buy it from Bill (bill@thinkpads.com) and he'll definetely ship it to Germany.

AFAIK IBM does ship to APO and FPO addresses, but if in doubt call or email them to make sure. Or, just order what you want through Bill, I guarantee he ships to APOs!
You with the 52nd FW? If delivery to you through normal means was found to be impossible, I could get it to Ramstein via back channel methods.
I mis-spent a lot of my youth driving along the Mosel and visiting vineyards in your area.
