Hi all:
It's my first post on this forum, so forgive me of any mistakes that I might make.
I've recently had trouble with my MacBook Air, so I'm restarting to use a T41 ThinkPad, only to recall that the power adapter only connects into the docking station that came with it. This represents a serious impediment to using this laptop outside, since I can't ferry the docking station with me, and the battery isn't holding much charge.
I'd like to know where can I source an adapter so that I can charge "on the go".
Way to connect T41 ThinkPad to A/C adapter directly

Re: Way to connect T41 ThinkPad to A/C adapter directly
hello and welcome to the forum..
aftermarket ac adapters are all over the place..
ebay, amazon, here in the marketplace, everywhere..
for really low cost depending..
if it were me, and it can't since i must have a couple dozen scattered around, i would seek a real IBM version for about $10 (without looking) more or less..
the ac adapter for your docking station should have a round plug with 4 connectors inside.. the one for your T41 is also round but will have one small connector in the middle..

So the docking stations uses a different charging cable than the laptop itself, or are they interchangeable at the A/C adapter?

If you have the higher amperage adapter (16V, 7.5A) for the docking station, represented by the plug with the four connectors inside, like this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181925696165
then that adapter cannot be used directly with the T41. Some docking stations did use a different adapter than "normal". The normal 16V adapters have a round barrel and a single hole inside, like this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/391280886935
Note: I have no relationship with this eBay seller. I merely located this auction by using the search terms "genuine thinkpad ac adapter 16v 4.5a".
