I used NHC. Default voltage for 800MHz (Pentium M 2GHz) is 0,988V. I reduce them to 0,716V and the CPU works stabile as a rock - cold rock :)

Somehow, my CPU temp is almost always the same independently if I use the 600MHz Clock Speed with 0.748V.

CPU Temp with 1.196V is 49-52C (1.80GHz)
CPU Temp with 0.748V is 47-50C (600MHz)

Why?

Hmmm FAN Speed is the same in both case? I don't think so.

Fan speed for 600MHz is On for a few minutes, however the CPU hovers at 48-51C.

The fan when 1.8GHz is selected is On all the time, and the CPU temp is 55-60C

I don't remember when having the stock compound in my laptop the temps were the same.

Can anyone confirm if the TIM help the CPU to be more cool, even when the CPU is undervolted/

not much differences for me to undervolt.

tried thinkpad T42 and only went from 41-39 celcius (lowest muliplier x6) at 0.748. Wanted to get the lowest voltage possible for more battery life but that didn't help...only maybe 10 or 15 min more...
I love thinkpads

Free software to control the voltage has appeared: https://www.dedigentoo.org/trac/linux-phc/

I have a suggestion for stability testing. And that is compilation of large software packages. It's usually much more accurate than running Prime95. If a machine runs memtest86 for a few hours and can compile the Linux kernel 10x, it will be completely stable. It can fail already at the first attempt and still run Prime95 for days with no problem, I've tested this.
Of course under Windows, the build environment is probably hard to set up. Anyway, with above patch, voltage can be controlled under Linux or BSD and properly tested.

Could it have something to do with your ambient temperature? Just guessing, but if you're in a warmer part of Mexico and not in an air conditioned room, it can definitely affect computer operating temperature.

I use NHC undervolting (.700V @ 6x) on a T42 1.7GHz Dothan. In Solomon Islands it idles at 43-45C; in Canada--with exactly the same settings--it idles at 36-38C. That's 7C difference. Obviously, the cooler climate has something to do with CPU temperature.

Just curious, how come when I try to use the settings in this thread, I can't even get close to the voltages everyone else is getting solid performance from.

currently I am using a Sonoma, 1.86MHz 750 processor with NHC 2.0.

I am using the minimum voltages that are outlined in the spec sheet ie: 6x 988, 8x 1052, etc.. 14x 1260, but when I try to use 6x 700, I get a crash(blue screen of death, or even a freeze of the system) upon using "set".

should I use the "use only multiplier #1 and voltage #1" checkbox?

how bout the ATI clock control #1 and #2?

thanks in advance, any advice on this would help!

nvm, I got close to the voltages needed, turns out I needed to do the changes incrementally, not just one big jump. surprise surprise.

still not as low as 6x - 700, but 716 and up from there. still working on the stability

Good to hear you've figured it out, 'cause I didn't have a clue  Not that I'm an expert or anything, but I still didn't have a clue. I guess your machine had some withdrawal issues . . . Didn't like going cold turkey, I guess. Gotta wean if off that voltage slowly, eh? It's addictive stuff, those electrons! I've got a Dothan 735 (PM 1.7GHz) running at 6x .700 / 17x 1.100; solid as a rock, cool as a cucumber (CPU 38C, HD 34C).

interesting results Paul,

I have my system:

CPU 48°C (0x78)
APS 49°C (0x79)
PCM 40°C (0x7a)
GPU 50°C (0x7b)
BAT 33°C (0x7c)
BAT 20°C (0x7e)
BUS 46°C (0xc0)
PCI 49°C (0xc1)
PWR 50°C (0xc2)

with the Fan Control program on, no fan running.

but when I use the BIOS controller, I get much cooler temps(CPU round 40, 41 deg), but the fan is constantly on... so in the end I'm happy, but I suspect you are using just NHC and not the Fan Control program... ?

I am using a Sonoma chipset though, so it does run hotter than your Dothan. :)

Actually, I'm using the "ACPI control system" to control my fan from w/in NHC (rather than the stand-alone Fan Control program). I find that having one program (i.e., NHC) do it all is easier.

oh my. I have to do some readup on how to configure ACPI. .. any hints? :)
