T42 and Embedded Security

#1 Post by think9 » Wed Jun 08, 2005 12:31 am

WinXP Prof.

Every time I boot up, I get this "IBM fingerprint software: Administrator mode". I have done the Fingerprints and Settings; but I did not do the Advanced Security > Install Embedded Security. If I click on that , it leads me to IBM Client Security Software composing of IBM Password Manager (which encrypts passwords, user ID, and other personal information onto the HD and recall data entered into Web pages) and Hardware based secure Windows logon. And invite me to install Client Security Software.

I really don't want any of those IDs, passwords, etc. stored on the HD, encrypted or not. Must I do that Password Manager if I want the Hardware-based secure Windows logon?

How can I stop that screen popping up every time I boot? And how do I get back to that screen when I am ready to do it?

I vaguely recall that a dialogbox popup once (while I am using IE) asking me whether I want to save the Password in logging onto a web site; and I mistakenly click on Yes. I want to change it to NO. Where do I go to change it?

Also, this T42 comes with the IBM Security Chip. Can someone give me a brief description of what it is?

I vaguely recall reading (a long time ago) that "new" either Microsoft/Windows or the CPU/BIOS had a unique ID to each PC and was somehow included in each document created on that PC. Is this related to the Security Chip at all? Or are they totally different matters?

TIA
