T30 Repair by user

Hey,
I just found out that this place exsists and I'm very happy and hope some of my questions can be answered. These are probably newbie questions, but I couldn't find all the answers in previous posts.

1. My T30 fan is making grr noise again. I was wondering if it's possible to fix the fan instead of replacing it by following the Maintence manual (thank you to whoever posted the link!!!)?

2. I know the CPU and other parts/cards can be swapped out, would I need the service disc to write new serial an uuid to to the EPROM?

Thought it might be interesting to add a 2.2 -2.4 ghz CPU and Bluetooth. My last runin with IBM service wasn't the greatest and my warrenty is ending this summer, so I figure I try to fix it myself. Still need to access the recovery partion, shouldn't have installed Linux without planning.

thanks!!

not sure what to say about the rest of the situation, but do you need the OS restore disk? I can offer advice for that one ;) I called them, said i'd just bought the computer from someone and they didn't have the disks, so they sent me new ones for free! :)
