T43 not functionnaly

#1 Post by herve.lambert » Sat Mar 12, 2016 4:37 pm

Hello everybody. I have a problem with my ThinkPad T43 . At present , it does not start . When I try to start it the ibm logo entry appears for a few seconds , then black screen . If I try to restart it immediately , the ibm screen will appear even more . If I allowed to " rest " a few hours , then it happens to be displayed again the IBM logo , but the problem is still . Do you have an idea of what can happen?

Either a loose or dying graphics chip (most likely), or a loose or dying Southbridge chip (less likely).
Both GPU and Southbridge can be reballed by a competent person or company, but those are really hard to find.
It's cheaper to buy another motherboard.

Switch off, remove power, battery, palmrest and wifi-card.
Then put some pressure on the big Intel chip (=Southbridge) under the wifi-card, and try to boot.
Try different corners of that chip.

Do the same pressure-stuff with the graphics chip.
If either of them now works, then reballing is required.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
