I've just had two friends T-42's returned to me for one last go-around (they need "indestructable" laptops, for one a kid and one out on a ocean-going tug).
They've been maxed-out about as far as a T-42 can, but I've seen there is a 128 GB PATA/IDE SDD.
I picked up some cheap Win-7 OEM licenses.
So the last things are...
1. Was a Wireless N Mini-PCI card ever made to replace the Intel 2200BG? If so would it needs a hacked BIOS like the Middleton T-61 no-whitelist one?
2. Was a DVD-burner ever made for these, like the Multi-III for the T-61?
Thanks!
Wireless N Mini-PCI cards for T-42
Re: Wireless N Mini-PCI cards for T-42
1. Wireless-N Mini-PCI cards do exist (although non were a stock option on the T4x); not sure which models are available and whether a BIOS mod is required.
2. Yes, the DVD Multi-Burner and Multi-Burner Plus were offered with the T42/T43. And it will also take the multi-burners of the Tx series, because the Ultrabay is the same (but they will not be flush with the chassis, because it is curved on the T4x and flat on the T6x).

Here you go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301943752933
On a T42 you'll need the NO-1802 hack: https://command-tab.com/2006/02/26/thin ... error-fix/
Mod the BIOS before you put in the new card.
