80GB travelstar platter swap advice
80GB travelstar platter swap advice
my hard drives (HTS548080M9AT00) head wont work right so i will be doing some hdd surgery.
im looking at buying this which is the right model http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hitachi-Travels ... SwgQ9VrGDP
will this be ok to use for swapping a platter or head from HTS548080M9AT00? which is my current drive.
issue is that is showing 600mA but my drive is showing 1.0A and the cyl count is different. the drive i have shows 16383 where as the one on ebay shows 1683.. looks like a typo?
ebay drive also has a 1 star rating so that makes me wonder.
if platter size or head type are standard then i might order this one below it has better rating and fresher manufacturing date. but the model number is not a match.

which one to go for?

Why bother swapping platter? Why not just swap old HDD with new?

You might as well kiss the data goodbye. Backup, backup, then backup the backup.

Send the drive in to data recovery service. I won't tell why about platter thing.

Re: 80GB travelstar platter swap advice
The reason is truth: this process will not do what you wish to hear is platter with magnetic imprinted on will now be off center also unreadable due to dust. There are about 1,000 tracks or so for a 80GB.
There is another solution send the drive or circuit board only to have certain items transferred to good circuit board and programmed.
Just don't brother on yourself. The value of this photos is priceless, and recovery is worth it. I do not erase on some of memory cards for camera and also transfer to good quality memory sticks.
