I need some help choosing a T43p

#1 Post by brainpicker » Fri Jun 10, 2005 5:34 pm

Here are my choices:

#1) 2.0GHz + Fingerprint Reader + Bluetooth + 9-Cell

or

#2) 2.13GHz + 6-cell

Everything else is the same. #1 is $250 more than #2. My friend has #1 but will sell or trade to me for the $250 as he don't care which he has. #2 just got delivered to me. Is it worth the extra money? I know I wouldn't notice the 0.13GHz difference. I'm not sure the two "extras" are worth that much to ME, but if I sell this next year will I have a problem unloading it without them when othes will be upgrading too and selling theirs with all the toys mine won't have?

Your thoughts?

the additional cost is not worth it for the additional enhancements..

but it depends if you think you will use the BT and the FPR..

Bt and Fingerprint are goodies. But be careful with the 6 cell battery. The sonoma platform needs more power (compared to the precedents ones -> banias, dothan). So if you take the 6 cells battery, your autonomy will be quite short (compared with a t42 for example).

Thanks guys. I didn't think the "upgrade" was worth it either but I wanted another opinion (or two). I'm using it as a desktop so battery life isn't important as I'll likely never use a battery anyway. Anyone want a brand new 6-cell battery? I have a Microsoft fingerprint reader that I've used for a long time now. It works great, and it even works on websites! As for Bluetooth, I have no items that require it, and pricing on mice/keyboards/headphones that use it is astronomical. A few wires aren't bad to save the $250.

Why do we always think what someone else has is better? I'll keep what I have. Thank you both again.

Why on earth are you getting a rediculously expensive laptop to use as a desktop?
X31, T43p (on sale soon I think :( ), T400

Because I want it. Because I can aford it. I hate size. I hate clutter. I hate the loud noise of a typical desktop. I like black. I play poker for lots of money and I can have 4 open games on my 1600x1200 screen at once. Once I go and pay big bucks for a quality 1600x1200 monitor somewhere to stick on one desk (and then build a quality system aroung it), I'm not paying too much more to be able to have a T43p and sit anywhere in my home to us it. So it's really a desktops (plural) laptop to me. It will be on many desks and countertops and occasionally on my "lap", but never leave my home.

That's why.

If you don't need bluetooth or the fingerprint reader, then there is no point for the extra $250.

I would keep the battery if I were you. You just never know when you will need to take the laptop and hit the road. Well, unless you already have another ultraportable for that.
