IBM used cheaper components as the life of the T4x series went on.

Could you provide some more details? The T43p seems to use:

• Analog Devices AD1981B AC '97 codec
• Panasonic AN12943A 1 W speaker/headphone amplifier
• SANYO SP9562 speakers (P/N 39T0800, FRU P/N 39T0801)

While the headphones volume range is fine, the background noise is quite high (e.g. compared to a cheap MP3 flash player). However, the internal speakers maximum volume is too low for some audio content. Are there any suggestions how to improve that (e.g. part numbers of components from earlier TPs that could be used)?
