Make sure IBM a/b/g card is 802.11g for ad-hoc network?

#1 Post by synapse » Mon Jun 21, 2004 5:33 pm

Hi-

I am trying to connect my T42p to a g wireless ad-hoc network at home and so far it is able to connect but it connects as a b I assume since the network speed immediately falls from 54 Mbps to 11. Is there anyway I can force it to connect at g? Thanks!

have you tried to specify 802.11g on the dropdown of the wireless settings in access connections as apposed to leaving it on the default of Auto

When I select ad-hoc as the network type that option is grayed out immediately and it changes to 802.11b. I don't understand this as my other computers can use 802.11g fine on an ad-hoc network. This is really starting to frustrate me. Thanks though-

I now am having trouble even getting it to connect as 802.11b. It says the Radio is ON but not associated and the signal quality is excellent. The funny thing is it shows the transmit rate at 1Mbps. I have the latest drivers for both the IBM a/b/g card and Access Connections and still no luck. I have also tried using windows to manage the connects but that will not work as well. This is really starting to upset me now and I am not sure what to do. I know it is not a problem with my other computers as they can connect to one anther fine using 802.11g.
Access Connections give me the error that the Association timed out though I do not know how this is possible. The computers are sitting right next to one another.

I even tried the Atheros Client Utility but I must not have done something right with that because even though it detects the network as 802.11g and not 802.11b it still won't connect and it uninstalled the a/b/g drivers on the first install and when I reinstalled the drivers it said the utility was not set up correctly.

I would really appreciate any help anyone has on this - surely someone must have had this problem before. I am about at the end of things to try out.

Thanks,

-Dan
