newbies questions about the t43

Just another student looking to buy a thinkpad (parents ibmers so epp program) with around $1500

What do the model numbers actually mean? is there actually a way of telling the specs on a laptop from the model numbers?

Anyone have any experience ATI Mobility RADEON x300 64mb?
I can't afford a t43p so im looking at the 2687DSU which is about $1600 and is
2ghz
14.1" sxga+ x300 64mb
512mb ram
80gb 5400rpm
wiresless and bluetooth
dvdr
9cell battery
if anyone can comment if this is a good deal? or if any of the selections are bad.

Is the 9 cell T43 14.1 inch physically bigger than the 6 cell?

and j/w are the thinkpads still IBM branded or did they already change the logo?

Hi Eric,

1. Yes, you can check out the specs via model number in the tabook

2. sorry, no experience there

3. Yes, the 9-cell sticks out a little from the back of the laptop, while the 6-cell is flush.

The logo change will be a gradual thing, beginning within the next year (I think...somebody feel free to correct me)

Thanks, looking at that tabook now, not sure if i can find these specfic models though. Just edited the post and added the actual specs/price of the t.

also the only drawback I see is not having a 1394 port, anyone know of a good add-on card that works well with the t? (just one thats not real cheap and snaps off if you roll your laptop onto its side)
