T42, Recovery CDs and WinXP

I had a problem in creating the Recovery CD; so IBM send me a set. And the set does not include WinXP CD. The Tech Support told me that it is part of the Recovery CDs.

I ask what if I had to reinstall just the WinXP -- since the Recovery CDs wipe out all partitions and reinstall to the initial Factory Default state.

I was told I had to buy the WinXP separately -- that the Thinkpad that I bought does not include the FULL OS. If I want the full OS, I have to buy it separately. Frankly, I don't understand the difference. [And when I bought the T42 from IBM's web site, it was not obvious that there is such a distinction. Tech Support said that I can return it since it is within the first 30 days.]

Can anyone tell me whether that is true -- re: the WinXP??? If yes, any work-around for me to create a WinXP CD that can be used to reinstall the OS?

There is a sticky inthe Windows OS section of this forum. There is a link that will guide you step by step how to create Windows XP CD. I have followed direction and it worked perfectly.

I used the created Windows XP CD to clean install my system in all my systems. You simply use the COA on the bottom of your computer to register. It has been flawless in my systems.

BTW, How did you manage to get a T92? j/k. I think you meant T42 on your title

You are right. It should be T42.

And thanks for pointer for creating WinXP CD. I hope I can find it.
